20 Years of Polaris: Why We Started and What Still Matters
In February, Polaris Business Solutions officially enters its 20th year in business – a milestone that represents far more than longevity. It reflects two decades of learning, adapting, and standing alongside customers as they navigated change, growth, and increasingly complex business systems.
As technology has evolved, markets have shifted, and ERP platforms have transformed, one thing has remained constant: our belief that successful ERP projects start with people and process, not software.
Why Polaris Was Founded
Polaris Business Solutions was founded to solve a problem that was already clear 20 years ago – and still exists today: too many organizations were being sold ERP systems without being properly understood.
At the time, ERP implementations were often driven by:
- ERP solutions were being sold without truly understanding the customer.
- Implementation partners lacked deep process insight.
- Post go-live support was often an afterthought.
Polaris was created to be different. From the beginning, our goal was to act as a trusted advisor – not just a software reseller—helping organizations understand their processes, challenges, and goals before recommending technology.
The ERP Landscape Then vs. Now
Twenty years ago, ERP looked very different:
- On-premise ERP systems were the standard.
- Integrations to other software were complex and time-consuming.
- Scaling came with high costs and infrastructure demands.
Today, cloud ERP platforms like Acumatica offer real-time visibility, flexibility, and scalability that simply weren’t possible two decades ago. Yet despite these advancements, many ERP projects still struggle for the same reasons they did years ago—lack of planning, unclear objectives, and insufficient change management. Technology has changed dramatically. The fundamentals of a successful ERP project have not.
The Values That Still Guide Us
From day one, Polaris has been guided by a few core principles:
- Partnership over transactions – ERP is a long-term relationship.
- Honest guidance – Sometimes the right answer isn’t the easiest one.
- Accountability – We stand behind our recommendations and our work.
These values have shaped how we approach every project, every implementation, and every customer relationship.
Lessons Learned Along the Way
Over 20 years, we’ve learned that ERP success is rarely about choosing the “best” system – it’s about choosing the right system for your organization.
We’ve seen firsthand that:
- Clear expectations reduce risk
- Strong executive sponsorship is critical
- Change management can’t be an afterthought
- Long-term support matters just as much as go-live
These lessons weren’t learned overnight. They were earned through real-world experience, complex projects, and long-term partnerships with our customers.
Why Longevity Matters in an ERP Partner
ERP systems are not short-term investments. They shape how businesses operate, report, and grow for years—sometimes decades.
Working with a partner that has stood the test of time means:
- Proven implementation methodologies
- Deep institutional knowledge
- Stability through technology shifts
- A partner who will still be there years after go-live
At Polaris, longevity isn’t just about how long we’ve been in business – it’s about the relationships we’ve built and maintained along the way.
Looking Ahead
As we celebrate our 20th year, we’re not just looking back – we’re looking forward. The next generation of ERP innovation, including automation and AI, presents incredible opportunities for organizations ready to evolve. Our commitment remains the same as it was on day one: to help organizations make smarter system decisions, build stronger operational foundations, and grow with confidence.
Thank you to our customers, partners, and team members who have been part of this journey. We look forward to continuing it – together.
